Department of Japanese Literature
In this Department, students will explore Japanese culture with the two fields of literature and language. In the field of literature, students will learn about the transition from the classics to modern and contemporary literature. In the area of language, students will learn the basics of the Japanese language while tracing back the history of the language.
Department of Humanities
Studies of Philosophy and Religion Course
In this course, students will explore universal questions of humankind such as what the world is and what human beings are, while touching on Western and Eastern philosophies, philosophers’ ideas, and histories. In addition, students will analyze various issues from a comparative perspective of religions and cultures, while cultivating a perspective to understand the world.
Intercultural Relations Course
In this course, with diversified cultural research and communication in English as the main pillars, students will observe cultures using various forms of academic knowledge and thoroughly pursue individual themes of interest of each student through small-group seminars.
Department of History
Japanese History Course
In this course, taught by faculty members who specialize in individual periods of history from ancient times to modern times, students will develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills by acquiring practice learning steeped in empirical historical studies based on historical materials.
Asian History Course
In this course, students will comprehensively study the history of the various regions in Asia, with a focus on China, and discover issues in Asian culture and modern society, thereby cultivating the ability to solve problems from new perspectives.
Cultural Heritage and Archaeological Studies Course
The pillars of learning in this Course are cultural heritage (history of arts and crafts), archaeological studies, museum studies, and cultural heritage preservation studies. Focusing on these four fields of study, students will attend practical classes, which emphasize learning by visiting local sites and seeing actual artifacts.
